Our class will consist of creating a typical Newfoundland and Labrador landscape using various upcycled clothing but with a focus on t-shirt strips. Your kit will consist of a choice of various ‘typical’ NL landscapes in the shape of a mitten, hand drawn on linen (approximately 5.5” x 11”) and will include all the fabrics you need to finish the piece.
Why a mitten shape you may ask. There is a story behind the mitten that I will share with you during the class. Participants are also encouraged to bring along small pieces of their own previously loved clothing (stretchy t-shirts, velour, dress shirts, various colored panty hose, whatever!) It’s a great opportunity to work one of Mom’s, Dad’s, Husband’s or Child’s favorite shirt into a mat.
A general knowledge of rug hooking is a prerequisite for this class and you will need to bring your frame, a medium size hook, a sharp pair of dress maker scissors, your rug hooking scissors for snipping the ends, and a fine sharpie marker. A very cost-efficient method for creating a beautiful wall, floor, or functional art piece, I will show you how to create using fibers in your closet or those of your family, friends and the local second-hand stores.
Winnie is providing the pattern on linen and fabric needed to hook the design you choose in class.
