Julie purchased this vintage rug in South Carolina and we just knew it had to be recreated under the Searsport label. It is a beautiful rug that has aged gracefully and faded into soft sepia tones of creams, beige’s, browns, blacks and taupes. A mixture of antique blacks in the background have faded out to show a wide mix of fabric that at one time was all black. But now show distinct sections of colors from dark rich golden/Black/brown to deep black/greens to simply black. Reflecting how the background was hooked with the fabric at hand as the hooker went along filling it in. Hook what you have, then get something else and so on and so on. The flowers show very faint hints of soft rose and blue and the leaves have a fading touch of green in them. So at one time this was a wonderful rug with vibrant color and lively flowers and two sweet birds. Maybe doves? We hope you enjoy hooking this and share your color scheme. Will you add colors or stay in the lovely faded pallet it currently is? The gentleman Julie purchased the rug from was liquidating his parent’s estate. He told us they were from VT and collected antiques before antiquing was cool!  So we do know the rug was purchased by them in the late 50’s early 60’s and that it hung in their den, mounted on the frame all this time. For the mounting its been lightly stretched on a linen backing and mounted on a wood frame. There is no knit fabric in the piece only woven and a lot of cotton for sure.
Finished size is 22x41 comes with pictures to show more detail.
Hand drawn on linen.
This will be equally beautiful wether you traditionally hook it with wool or punched it with yarn!
There are some details that Chris drew on the pattern because they are there if you look closely. Over all they do not really show except under some lighting and up close. It’s your choice whether to hook them or just fill in.
Watch for a mini punch size coming soon!
Black Jack Stipe that is a reversible wool will make a perfect background. Use both side of the wool to give you the old look.
Another one that would make a great back ground is Sleepy Hollow. This will give more color and is one of our favorites!
*****You will need approximately 2 yards of back ground wool. 1.75 if your a risk taker ;)
