Dying SC Blue with Gina Levesque THURSDAY AM

Regular price $90.00

South Carolina Blue (Gina Levesque)

In the early 1700’s, South Carolina resident Eliza Lucas was charged with a huge task, to make her father’s plantations profitable. She was a young girl of 16 who was inquisitive, intelligent, and enjoyed her “little schemes”. One way she accomplished this feat was by growing indigo ultimately leading the charge to make it the most profitable crop in the region.

This class will cover a little history but will primarily focus on creating and maintaining an indigo dye bath. Explorations will be made into methods of achieving depth of color and pattern design.

Students will be provided with a notebook of information relating to indigo, experimental samples to take home, and a half yard of wool fabric to dye blue.

*****Dye aprons and house cleaning gloves are encouraged.
