We are trying something different this year instead of a “contest” we are doing a swap!
When you sign up for the Hookin’ you will automatically receive an email to download and print out the 4 patterns for the ornament swap. We are doing this for something fun and easy that hits all art forms. It doesn’t matter if you’re a rug hooker, Oxford puncher, appliquér, mini puncher or quilter! Everyone will use the same pattern.

Your Pattern will be emailed to you after registration

There are 4 different ornaments you can do, if you like you can do one, two, three or all four! Or none at all. But what we will do is display all of them together with a fun, colorful wild, holiday display! Just think if we have over 300 attendees and you all do just 3 ornaments…. That’s 900 ornaments!!!!! Let’s aim for 1000!!! Do you think we can do it? It’s all up to YOU! Here is the swap part, when you’re done at the end of the Hookin’ you will receive back, the same number of ornaments that you gave us for display! NOT your same ones back, but the same amount of pretty fun new ornaments for your tree or holiday display! If you don’t want to create for the swap that’s ok :) but you will be sorry when you see them all next July!
  1. We recommend tracing your pattern on linen or monks cloth for hooking or Oxford punching. And onto weavers cloth for the mini punch. Quilters you know what to do!
  2. The shape and size must stay the same. But you can do any designs you like on it! Stripe, zigzags, circles…..Check out Pinterest and shiny bright ornaments for inspiration.
  3. Hook, punch or stitch  your design, staying just inside the outside line so it doesn’t grow in size on you.
  4. Now have fun! You can keep it simple, just your hooking, punching or stitching, or go crazy and embellish your pieces! Or use ribbons or yarns for the hooking or punching? Maybe tiny beads, buttons or sequins on them! What will you do to yours?
  5. You will also need to make a back for your finished ornament. We recommend tracing your finished ornaments and cutting out a paper pattern first to make sure it covers the back of your ornament. We like to use heavy wool and cut out the backs with pinking shears for a decorative edge too.
  6. Trim the extra backing away from your ornament and press and steam to the back of your ornament. Now simply glue the hanger and the backing on and you’re done!
  7. Don’t forget a label of some kind. If you use light colored wool or cotton for the backing you can write on it with a sharpie. A piece of white cotton written on with a sharpie and glued to the back is perfect! Maybe your name, date and state? Everyone will want to know where their new ornaments came from!
Remember, you will not receive the ornaments you brought in, back. Instead you get a gift bag with the same amount you brought to show and share! How much fun!!! We are very happy your joining us and we look forward to seeing your ornaments next July at the S.C Hookin’
