Coffee Sack Tote Workshop: Not your Average Tote
In this class, you will start the process of turning a coffee, bean sack into a bold, oversized tote, letting your imagination guide the shape shapes and accents you had along the way. You will hook a design directly onto the sack, seeing how the bags form and features inspire your design.
These sacks are full of surprises – printed graphics, seems, and uneven edges – so this project is not about perfection. Instead, we will adapt, experiment and embrace the happy accidents that give each bag it’s character.
Students will take their hooked pieces home to finish, sewing them into a tote. Once assembled, the result will be a one-of-a-kind bag that is creative and full of personality. No two bags will be alike – and that’s exactly the point.
Mary fly, from here in SC will be walking you through creating your own jumbo tote bag. You will hook the main motif on real coffee bags, included in the class is all the wools, embellishments, yarns, sari silks need to hook the central design. Then she will discuss the many ways to finish the bag and show you the many bags she has made and the different ways to finish them. She will have fabrics available for purchase to make your linings and handles if you need them.
You will need your hook, scissors and frame.
